The Internet and digital platforms are essential elements of many young people’s everyday lives; it is imperative that young people are informed and educated about the risks of their online engagement and the long-term implications of digital footprints as well as how to safeguard them.
The United Nations Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth is collaborating with Twitter for Good to implement a youth-friendly guide for young people to navigate the safety features of the Twitter platform as well as to share young people’s thoughts, experience, and feedback to the company’s policy team to improve the way forward.
Through this collaboration, we are calling for young people to express their interest to engage in this collaboration by being the Stay Safe Champions who can share their feedback and be community leaders in raising awareness of the importance of online safety. Stay Safe Champions’ efforts to lead their community will be recognized (per their consent) on the publication of the youth-friendly guide and will be invited to share their experience/motivation in leading their community towards a safer digital future.

Building on the preliminary findings of the protection study, and additional consultations had with young people regarding their online safety concerns, the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth started the Stay Safe Champions initiative. The initiative is a collaboration with Twitter to implement a youth-friendly guide for young people to navigate the safety features of the Twitter platform as well as to share young people’s thoughts, experience, and feedback to the company’s policy team to improve the way forward.
