Christopher Malano

Youth Solidarity Fund (YSF)

I have been involved with youth NGOs at the local community, national, and international levels. Born and raised in the island archipelago of Hawai'i to migrant parents from the Philippines, I have come to understand the value of a diverse community and society. Having worked with Pax Romana at the United Nations Headquarters in NYC and at its International Secretariat in Paris, I have been able to work on "bottom up" projects in many parts of the world. In order to truly empower youth actors to be effective change-makers, we need not pay lip-service, but engage their participation. Some to models and simulations, however, I would dare to say that an a youth advocate, young people need to be fully involved in the issues that affect their lives, from education and awareness campaigns, advocacy at the legislative and policy levels, in the implementation process, as well monitoring and evaluation. The phrase, "service with", rather that "service to", is key to in how we approach service leadership.
