Noufal Abboud has expert working experience with intergovernmental organizations, governmental agencies and regional non-governmental organizations in the field of democracy, transitional justice, human rights and conflict transformation in the MENA region. He is a specialist in transitional justice and reconciliation processes with particular reference to Morocco. A native of Morocco and Swedish national, he was former Coordinator for Democracy in the Arab World project at the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA) in Sweden, and Policy and Research Consultant on the Role of the EU in Democracy Building in the Arab World. He is author of “Regenerating the State in the Arab World: The Role of European Union in Democracy Building” and “Equity and Reconciliation Commission Processes in Morocco: A Retrospective.” He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in international law from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) University of London, and an International Master of Arts (MA) in Human Rights. His Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D.) thesis at SOAS, University of London is an in-depth analysis on the transitional justice and reconciliation processes in Morocco.
