More Than One Story

Intercultural Innovation Award (IIA)

More Than One Story is a card game designed to build bridges between people of all ages, backgrounds and cultures. After hearing the Nigerian author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, lecture about “The Danger of a Single Story", the staff of the Department of Culture and Leisure in the municipality of Simrishamn, Sweden, worked with young people and other project participants to find a solution. This led us to develop the card game More Than One Story. We printed the first edition of our game in Swedish and English in 2012. Since then, we have worked together with our network of partner organisations to spread More Than One Story all around the World. Encouraging the sharing of life stories in order to open hearts and minds, the card game now exists in over 20 languages, and has been played by an estimated one million people. The project has received the 2014 Intercultural Innovation Award from the UNAOC and the BMW Group, and was voted as the winner of the 2015 Democracy Innovation Award by the participants of theEuropean Council's World Democracy Forum. We are continuously welcoming new partner organisations to help us spread our game to more countries and in more languages.
