Summer Schools
Mimi has over eight years’ experience using media and communication for social change. She is passionate about women’s rights. Mimi is a key note speaker at schools (Melbourne, Perth), community events and international conferences including the United Nations Summit in New York (2014) and a presidential town hall with Barack Obama in Washington (2015). Her inspiring presentation includes topics of youth leadership, Sexual and Gender Based Violence, women’s empowerments with a focus on global health. Mimi is working as the Fundraiser and Grants Manager with REAVI-Baho, a Burundian network that fights sexual and gender-based violence in her home country Burundi. REAVI-Baho has just launched the BAHO centre, a space where girls who have been raped want to reintegrate in school can leave their children. Mimi just completed a successful fundraiser that will allow to run a birth registration campaign for children of survivors of sexual violence. Mimi holds a Master’s in International Development, Politics and Gender from the Australian National University, focused specifically on the trafficking of African women for forced labor in Australia that has gone unnoticed by African and Australian governments. She will continue to organise activities to educate girls on gender issues, youth leadership and empowerment.
